It’s funny- whenever it’s researched it doesn’t quite give the results we all hoped for (ie reduce need for blood transfusions etc). There may be some promising neuro effects though- still to be decided.

Thank you. Please keep in mind the neuroprotective effects of Epo could also be indirect, via reduced diaphragm fatigue (i.e. less apneas). I realize this seems like a stretch but over two years of research has led me to believe recurrent spontaneous diaphragm spasms (DS) in infants cause apneas-hypopneas, PB and hypoxemic episodes, leading to hypoxic brain injury (amongst other complications). Hiccups are an example of 'benign' DS (yet are associated with intermittent airway obstructions and apneas [Brouillette 1980]). If we could only reduce diaphragm fatigue, the benefits to infant morbidity and mortality would be enormous.
